After attempting to sleep on a pallet on the floor of our empty living room with the dogs beside us, we woke bright and early to start gathering the last of the items in the house. While I ran around panicking, Alex loaded the items into the truck that I was franticly tossing about. We surprisingly managed to finish packing, attached the vehicle trailer back to the truck and head over to my parent’s house a little after 9am. After some breakfast at Waffle House, since Alex thought he would never see one again, we headed over to say goodbye to my little sister at Starbucks where she works before running to Sandy Springs for closing on the house.
By 3pm we were in the truck with the dogs after saying goodbye to my parents. The dogs immediately were excited for a “car” ride and it only took a few minutes before they were over it and ready to sleep. Though Bailey continued to pant and shake with nerves until the Tennessee/Kentucky boarder where she wiggled her way in between the seat and Maggie and planted herself in my lap. I am not sure what possessed us to have two full grown labs in the cab of the UHAUL with us, but I am just glad this is a one way trip and not to be repeated. I think I made it to the Tennessee boarder before I started nodding off from being so tired. With the goal to make it to Paducah, Kentucky for the night it was a struggle to stay awake for nothing more than moral support to Alex for driving.
About two hours out we started the hunt for a hotel on our phones. Days Inn had the win since it was reasonable priced and pet-friendly, and also because apparently we chose the best night to stay in Paducah since most hotels were already booked by the sweet little old ladies all attending the quilting convention going on, go figure, at least we knew our stuff would be safe.
We made it to Paducah with surprising ease and with that we had three states crossed off our list and would wake up, what I was sure would be early, to cross off Illinois, Missouri and most of Kansas off the list for Saturday.
