Three years ago my friend found a coupon for white water rafting on the Ocoee. We thought we would give it a shot and now we are addicted! It is such a rush and great activity to plan with friends. We try to go several times a year and if I was still in college I could easily be persuaded to take a summer job guiding tours.
We decided we couldn’t wait any longer since the season opened in March and booked a trip for last Saturday. While we normally can get a good group together it was like pulling teeth this time because the “water would be to cold.” Just so you know you are all wimps! This trip was by far the BEST trip we have had to date! First of all we have been going to Sunburst Adventures for the past three or four trips. They are great up there and have the best deals. This time we said we wanted an experienced guide and want to play a lot in the rapids. Boy did we get what we asked for!
Les is a thirty-something, tatted up, crazy hot mess and THE BEST guide we have had. We surfed every rapid we could going down the middle Ocoee. Since my girlfriend and me seem to communicate without talking we appointed ourselves as the front rowers, we like to think we keep the team together (In all actuality, the guide does most of the work and that is why you need a good one). Well having the front rowing seats is kind of like sitting in the front row of the Sea World shows, you know you’re going to get wet and we did! We sat in rapids till the raft was submerged in water. I thought I was going to lose my friend a few times and I am completely surprised we didn’t flip the whole thing once or twice. We can’t wait to go again, so we are already planning for the beginning of June and then again in July and maybe August, what can I say I said we were addicted!
So the only downside to rafting is NO ONE looks cute stuffed in a helmet and oversized life vest!
